Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 28: What Little Remains, a group exhibition featuring six contemporary artists, will be presented at Nine Fish Art Gallery, The Great Eastern Home, Byculla, Mumbai, from 27 September to 14 November 2026. The exhibition brings together diverse contemporary practices that explore a simple but recurring question: what stays with us when things change?
The exhibition looks at the traces that experiences leave behind—within our bodies, memories, surroundings and the places we inhabit. Across the works, the artists engage with changing landscapes, urban spaces, nature, personal histories, labour and lived experience, each approaching these subjects through a distinct visual language.
Memory runs through the exhibition, not as a fixed record of the past, but as something that changes with time. A familiar place much changed can still hold a sense of recognition. A personal experience can fade, while its emotional imprint remains. A landscape can be transformed, while fragments of what existed before continue to surface.

The works also bring attention to the relationship between the natural and the built environment. Architecture, streets, industrial structures and everyday spaces sit alongside trees, vegetation and other forms of organic life. There is a sense of both tension and coexistence—of what is being lost, what is adapting, and what continues to find a way to exist.
Alongside these broader questions, the exhibition remains deeply connected to personal experience. Loss, care, belonging, responsibility and everyday encounters become ways of understanding the world around us. Materials themselves carry part of this conversation: layers, marks, textures and surfaces become records of time, use and memory.
Sometimes, what remains is not the thing itself, but the feeling, memory or impression it leaves behind. ‘What Little Remains’ is an invitation to pause, look closely, and consider how these traces continue to shape the way we experience the present.
